Miett Boyer

Clay and Mixed Media

Born the youngest of three in Brindisi, Italy, Miett came to the States as a child. She spent most of her childhood in Illinois; it was here that her love for art began. Her early work tended toward Surrealism and Expressionism. In addition, she has always loved expressing herself through clays. She moved to Torrance, CA in her teen years.

Newly wed at twenty-one, Miett moved with her husband, Terry, to the Los Angeles area where they resided for twelve years. There she honed her skills in interior design, first on her own home and then on friend’s homes. It was during this period that she realized her passion and appreciation for Italian architecture - not surprising in light of her Italian heritage. They returned to Illinois six years ago with their beautiful daughter, Abigail.

After experimenting in many media (acrylics, jewelry making, and watercolors,) she has returned to one of her first loves clays. She currently specializes in polymer clay, incorporating fibers, acrylics, images such as Art Gone Wild, powdered pigments, notions and beads, all married with her passion for Italian architecture.

Her work has a spiritual and positive message. It captures the essence of the human soul's need for purpose. It expresses the human spirit's need to love and be loved; it invites us to taste of the fullness that this life has to offer. It encourages us to live life to its fullest potential, to not only survive but to thrive. It speaks of the strength of the human spirit. A positive message is woven throughout all her pieces that speaks to the ability to rise above the abuses of this life and encourages others to do the same. To dare to hope when hopes have been dashed. To dare to dream when dreams have been shaken. To dare to love, when loves have shown no loyalty. To show self-expression with no fear of vulnerability. It challenges us to bear all things, believe all things, hope all things, endure all things. It is about seizing abundant life.
